The holidays are behind us and the winter season is in full effect. For some people, that means hunkering down and waiting out the cold, but for Detroit, things are just heating up as the 2019 Quicken Loans Winter Blast returns to downtown with a whole new format!
Over the past 13 years, Winter Blast has been one jam-packed, action-filled weekend of activities, food and fun, but the 2019 festival will run for 12 days across four different weekends in January and February. The first two weekends coincide with the North American International Auto Show, which runs Jan. 19-27.
Starting Friday, Jan. 19, downtown will transform and host events ranging from a food truck rally, to family fun activities, strolling entertainment acts and local music. The best part is that it’s free to the public.
Here’s what’s in store over the course of the four weekends, which run Jan. 19-21, Jan. 25-27, Feb. 8-10 and Feb. 15-17:
Join us Feb. 15-17 and fly over Cadillac Square on a mobile zip line. Tickets are $10 each and take you on a flight the length of a football field.
Wanna learn to ski or snowboard? From Jan. 25-27, Boyne Mountain resorts will provide 20-minute beginner lessons to participants.
Free Ice Skating
Weekends 1 and 4 will include free ice skating at the Campus Martius Ice Rink. Skates will be available to rent for $5.
Stroll on through Cadillac Square and the Esplanade to visit beautiful, lit-up ice sculptures. Each weekend is a different theme, and the Ice Garden is the perfect photo opportunity. #XODetroit
Whatever your taste, the Michigan Lottery Music Showcase will have you covered. From progressive soul-pop, to alternative rock, to electronic, to R&B and everything in between, there’ll be a Metro Detroit artist sure to make you move.
Feeling hot? Cool off in the Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics of Michigan. Register online at WinterBlast.com, and encourage friends and family to donate in support of your plunge.
